When starting, Dabin’s painting is rather rigid and austere.
« The use of colour obliges me to leave too structural graphics…».
In the 50’s, Dabin is interested in abstract expressionism and in the action painting
of New York school.
He might have chosen abstraction but it quickly passed over.
« I had an abstract period but I got tired as it quickly
reduced to colour studies. ».
He will come back to figures keeping this spirit and sensitiveness so characteristic of his way of painting. With the passing of the years, he will become the painter of movement.
«I take hold of the richness of colours. I am touched by the movement...».
His ways of composition reveal this idea of movement : conventional diagonals or vertical lines slitghtly slanting, curved lines radiating from a central axis.
The work becomes explosive thanks to colours overcoming the drawing.
Dabin paints quickly, at the first attempt, his gesture is energetic and intuitive.
« I am not a painter fond of description, I work instinctively ».
